The second has an outdoor shower, a handsome outdoor fireplace, kitchen sink and counter, and the cabin, all enclosed by a 5 foot rock wall for privacy. Inside, Werner payed homage to Terlingua’s natural beauty. Off the main house are the 12 casitas, which range from 250 square feet to 600 square feet.

The Chinati Foundation offers free admission to its permanent collection, exhibitions, talks and music, and welcomes all to experience the contemporary art on display. Home to The Big Bend Sentinel and Presidio International, The Sentinel is a coffee shop, restaurant, bar and event venue supporting local, independent journalism in Marfa, Texas. The real draw inside the main house is the sunken sitting area, where the design puts nothing between the dining table and the desert scenery framed by oversized windows.

The structures, completed in Spring 2019, are single story stand-alone casitas. The water source for the entire property is a water well powered by a solar pump. Two heavy duty reverse osmosis systems filter the well water. Drilling our own water source was a big moment for the project, as water is scarce in this dry, high-desert region. There’s a simple indoor kitchen with sink, fridge, oven/stove and a small table. The patio features a full outdoor kitchen with sink, cooking, and dining area.

It is clean, high quality, and offers more services than any other hotel in the area. However, if you are looking for a one time only true Marfa experience, this is probably not your best option. Over the next few years, Werner’s vision for the project began to take form. Inspired by the hospitality experience at friends’ West Texas ranches, she imagined individual casitas grouped around a main house. A central, communal experience, paired with the private seclusion of stand alone guest quarters. The alluring beauty of the Chisos Mountains is nearly indescribable—its rugged arcs giving way to miles of desert terrain.

We mixed design elements from high desert areas with warm modernism and a hint of inspiration from Georgia O'Keeffe's unforgettable southwestern style. In all design decisions, we chose to use colors and textures that naturally existed on the land. For rock walls and pathways throughout the property, we used rocks that we sourced and collected from various areas of the property. For the shade structures, we used dead ocotillo branches we found around the property. In order to build structures that stand the test of time, we have used high-quality materials that are durable in a climate that can be dramatic.

Location to Big Bend was really good, the rooms were very clean and the staff was very nice. The restaurant on site was very good and everything on property was close in proximity. Sophisticated offerings considering how remote Marfa is. They carry everything from essentials (olive oil, eggs, butter) to unlikely Marfa finds (wide selection of Kombucha, specialty hummus).
‘Nearly everything here was either done by an artist who resides in West Texas or through a residency at Willow House’. ‘I took two separate trips out to Farmville,’ Werner says of the latter. ‘They have 17 massive warehouses full of goodies that any interior designer would go nuts over’. However, an open, warm community space featuring a kitchen, living area and outdoor fire pit at the heart of the property paves the way for visitors to mix a drink and make new friends. I am always pleasantly surprised to find all ingredients to make an impressive charcuterie board at The Get Go. The Saint George restaurant has good food, cocktails, and most importantly... Coffee and cocktails are served all day until 3pm. “There was nowhere that I had seen around Big Bend that focused on the Chisos as the primary view, which is the whole reason people go out to Big Bend,” Werner said. At age 25, Werner first visited the Big Bend area on a solo road trip to West Texas. She was struck by the beauty of the land and instantly fell in love with the area.

Reflecting and showcasing the surrounding desert landscape was a core tenant of the project from the beginning, a quality that Werner felt was lacking in the available accomodations in the area. Born and raised in Southern California, Lauren Werner’s introduction to Texas began during her time studying at Southern Methodist University. She graduated with a pre-law degree and began working in commercial real estate in Dallas, but was quickly convinced that she wanted to start a project of her own.

With her first hotel well-established, Werner is working towards a second hotel, Oxido, a nature retreat located on 30 acres of mountainside property in Sedona, Arizona. And how unfortunate that she seems to be proving the Glasses right and herself wrong when a social worker walks in on a crucial moment and, of course, misinterprets it. Diane Lane and Stellan Skarsgard, as the Glasses, are so good in the dialed-down "realistic scenes" that we cringe when they have to go over the top and make everything so very absolutely clear for the slow learners in the audience. Shortly after, Terry locks the children in the basement and sabotages his Jaguar, expecting them to reattempt escape in the car, then drinks himself into a stupor. The children manage to get out of the basement and while they attempt to escape the house, Begleiter arrives to speak to Terry. It is revealed that Begleiter had been informing Terry about Ruby's reports to him. Begleiter has grown suspicious after a call from the bank saying the guardianship is under investigation.

Given the Glasses' long-term plans, why not make the kids as happy as possible? The first kind of thriller is a film, the second is a technical exercise. Increasingly suspicious, Ruby investigates her parents' deaths after reading an article stating David had been driving a BMW at the time of the accident, knowing he owned a Saab. She discovers a damaged car similar to her father's at Terry's shop and learns the BMW her parents were driving was registered to Terry's business. After the loan sharks push him to pay off his debt, Terry tries to get money from the trust fund through the account trustee.

Ruby tries to get the children's estate and trust fund lawyer Alvin Begleiter to accept her concerns, but he is skeptical of her claims, as she was going through a rebellious phase prior to her parents' deaths, ultimately being suspended from school for plagiarism. Ruby pushes Begleiter to get social services involved, but visiting social worker Nancy Ryan is taken in by the couple's assurances. The floor is also made of red brick laid out in a herringbone pattern and is raised ten inches off of ground level.
The only other divisions in the house besides the bathroom are discreetly done with low cabinets and bookshelves, making the house a single open room. Stringed instrument maintenance
Took my Les Paul in to have the toggle switch repaired/replaced and Phillip was able to get me in and out quickly as I had a short window of time. Honestly, I wouldn't have minded much if he took a little longer as I never get tired of roaming the shop dreaming about my next guitar. There’s few guitar shops that come to mind that I’d take my own guitar to when I need work done. Phil replaced them and made them fit more flush in my guitar again without a tremendous price point.

Never felt rushed or like I couldn't keep trying something out. At the end I left with nothing but knew I really wanted the American Vintage II strat and bought it next day. But if I had to pick just one, I would say “No Excuses” by Alice in Chains; it’s one of the first I ever learned how to play.

Aged materials and antique-inspired details combine to give this new French country home an old-world style. The stucco siding features a weathered finish and white shutters quaintly accent multi-paned windows. Typically a prominent part of the exterior's design, this style features four sloping sides that meet in a ridge along the top.
Intricate carving and painted wood, as seen on these chairs and buffet, is a common element of French country decor. You can instantly elevate a space with humble bones by hanging a delicate crystal chandelier or mounting a gilded antique mirror. Choose just one or two glitzy accessories to introduce an air of luxury without going all-out glam. As previously mentioned, the largest concentration of French Colonial structures can be found in urban and rural Louisiana. Many French Provincial homes were built during the reign of King Louis XIV and were actually inspired by the grand stylings and furnishings of Versailles—on a much simpler, more rustic scale, of course. If you find yourself swooning over French-style homes but wonder if you'll ever be able to make your own house look remotely as elegant as the spaces you admire online, the answer is yes. Although you'll find many manors and massive chateaux houses in the French countryside, French country homes tend to be more relaxed with an Old-Word feel. These days, you don't have to venture across the Atlantic to see (or even live in) French-style homes for yourself. French-inspired homes share many notable characteristics with Mediterranean-style houses.
Decorate with Subdued Colors
Stately white columns add prominence below a hip roof broken up by three dormers. French doors across the front are painted soft blue-gray, set off beautifully by the antique brick porch floor.
French Country Homes with European Elegance
Unlike Spanish Colonial architecture, French Colonial hasn't had a major resurgence among homebuilders in the United States. Typically, architectural styles are informed by the environment, surroundings, and tools and materials available for building. Early Spanish Colonial style, for example, utilized adobe (made from clay and straw) and clay roof tiles because the materials were readily available across the southeastern and southwestern United States. When French colonists arrived in the Louisiana Territory, however, their surroundings did not inform their building styles, nor did it inform the materials they used. Rather, early French settlers built homes that were more suitable for temperate climates—not the hot, humid conditions found in the southeast.
This stunning bedroom was designed by Brittany Jones, whose many projects I have featured before. Everything celebrates the beauty of patina and Euro-style, while delivering a room that’s as updated as can be. If I had to pick a room that represents the quintessence of my direction in decor, it would be this bedroom. I personally have not yet achieved this level of rustic chic in my own home, but this is a pretty good summary of my goal.
