Protesters at Yale set up a new camp with dozens of tents Sunday, nearly a week after police arrested nearly 50 and cleared a similar one nearby. They were notified by a Yale official that they could face discipline, including suspension, and possible arrest if they continued. Another group of demonstrators trapped police and a van full of arrestees between buildings, creating a mass of bodies pushing and shoving and prompting the officers to use pepper spray and flash-bang devices to clear the crowd.

At Brown University in Rhode Island, school President Christina H. Paxton offered protest leaders the chance to meet with officials to discuss their arguments for divestment from Israel-linked companies in exchange for ending an encampment. The notice sent to protesters earlier Monday said if they left by the deadline and signed a form committing to abide by university policies through June 2025, they could finish the semester in good standing. If not, the letter said, they would be suspended, pending further investigation. I remember when the shop first opened about 28 years ago. I ended up buying my red tail there about a year after. She just passed away earlier this month and I was completely devastated.

It’s clear that the safety and health of animals isn’t a priority here. The protests have even spread to Europe, with French police removing dozens of students from the Sorbonne university after pro-Palestinian protesters occupied the main courtyard. In Canada, student protest camps have popped up at the University of Ottawa, McGill University in Montreal and the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, The Canadian Press reported.

Meanwhile, a legal group representing pro-Palestinian students is urging the U.S. Department of Education's civil rights office to investigate Columbia's compliance with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 for how they have been treated. Columbia's handling of the protests has prompted federal complaints.

“We urge you to remove the encampment so that we do not deprive your fellow students, their families and friends of this momentous occasion,” the letter said. They are our go to place for everything reptile or fish. Been going here for almost a year, everyone is so awesome there. Every day countless reptiles are released into the wild and left to fend for themselves. It is an unfortunate truth of the pet trade, and especially true for exotic pets. For pet reptiles it can be hard to find a place that is willing and able to care for them. A class-action lawsuit on behalf of Jewish students alleges a breach of contract by Columbia, claiming the university failed to maintain a safe learning environment, despite policies and promises. It also challenges the move away from in-person classes and seeks quick court action requiring Columbia to provide security for the students.

From coast to coast, demonstrators are sparring over the Israel-Hamas war and its mounting death toll, and the number of arrests at campuses nationwide is approaching 1,000 as the final days of class wrap up. The outcry is forcing colleges to reckon with their financial ties to Israel, as well as their support for free speech. Great shop and even better workforce that take on the reigns to running this place . Not favourable but the best interpersonal interactions is what that still motivates me to drive here.

Chang said that while the university appreciated the free speech rights of students, the encampment was a “noisy distraction” that was interfering with teaching and preparation for for final exams. The protests also made some Jewish students deeply uncomfortable, he said. The university didn’t call police to roust the demonstrators. But three hours after the deadline passed, school spokesperson Ben Chang said Columbia had begun suspending students.

The Texas protest and others grew out of Columbia's early demonstrations that have continued. On Monday, student activists at Columbia defied a 2 p.m. Deadline to leave an encampment of around 120 tents on the school’s Manhattan campus. Instead, hundreds of protesters marched around the quad, clapping, chanting and weaving around piles of temporary flooring and green carpeting meant for graduation ceremonies that are supposed to begin next week.

He also didn't say how the suspensions would be carried out or whether suspended students would be ejected from the campus. The confrontation was an escalation on the 50,000-student campus in the state's capital. On social media, Republican Gov. Greg Abbott reposted video of state troopers arriving, saying “No encampments will be allowed." Just last week, hundreds of police pushed into protesters at the university, arresting more than 50 people. The plight of students who have been arrested has become a central part of protests, with the students and a growing number of faculty demanding amnesty for protesters. At issue is whether the suspensions and legal records will follow students through their adult lives.

Yale said in a statement Monday that while it supports peaceful protests and freedom of speech, it does not tolerate policy violations such as the encampment. School officials said that the protest is near residential colleges where many students are studying for final exams, and that permission must be granted for groups to hold events and put up structures on campus. The demonstrations have led Columbia to hold remote classes. The school said in an email to students that bringing back police “at this time” would be counterproductive. The university said it will offer an alternative venue for the protests after exams and graduation. In a rare case, Northwestern University said it reached an agreement with students and faculty who represent the majority of protesters on its campus near Chicago.

In the letter to student protesters at Columbia, school officials noted that exams are beginning and graduation is upcoming. College classes are wrapping up for the semester, and campuses are preparing for graduation ceremonies, giving schools an extra incentive to clear encampments. The University of Southern California canceled its main graduation ceremony.

Demonstrators on other campuses, meanwhile, said they would stand firm. Jacob Ginn, a second-year University of North Carolina sociology graduate student, said he had been protesting at the encampment for four days, including negotiations with administrators Friday. Great selection, great prices, and knowledgeable staff.

Latest News on the St George Utah Temple

st. george temple open house

Reservations are now available online to tour the renovated St. George Utah Temple during the public open house, via reservations.churchofjesuschrist.org. It is one of a half-dozen temples with either ongoing public open houses or ones that will start in the next month. In announcing 12 new temples at the October 2018 general conference, President Russell M. Nelson also said that the Salt Lake Temple and other pioneer-era temples will be renovated. The Saints overcame the problem of a swampy site in an ingenious way. They decided to bring lava rock to the site then made drains to get rid of much of the water.

Exterior

Lighting features and the baptismal font area are inspired by leaf shapes and area succulents, while stone and tile patterns suggest the layered structures of local mountains. The temple also features exterior arches as well as a vertical emphasis with deep pilasters — rectangular columns projecting from a wall. The pilasters are an architectural cue from the Church’s Wilshire Ward meetinghouse in Los Angeles, California.

‘It looks more like the historic temple.’ The public open house for the St. George Utah Temple begins next week

The natural colors of the almond blossom are used against a backdrop of yellow fading to blue. Richardson Design Partnership designed the art glass with assistance from Holdman Studios. The glass’s main design motif is the regionally significant almond blossom. The Red Cliffs temple is one of a dozen temple in Utah that will be dedicated or rededicated in the next several years. Utah is home of the Church’s world headquarters and nearly 2.2 million Latter-day Saints.

Interior features of the St. George temple

The public open house will run from Thursday, Feb. 1, through Saturday, March 2, excluding Sundays. The temple will be dedicated on Sunday, 13 October 2024 in multiple sessions. The temple will be dedicated on Sunday, 22 September 2024 in multiple sessions.

The windows of the St. George Utah Temple have always had clear glass, similar to other temples such as Nauvoo, Kirtland, and Salt Lake. The original 1877 wood windows were determined to be insufficient for needed thermal performance and were replaced by new wood windows made by Re-View Windows Inc. in Kansas City, Missouri.

Pioneer-era temples and renovations

In areas where the existing plaster was failing or needed to be removed to accommodate new electrical, HVAC or plumbing, it was replaced with new plaster or drywall. Most of the temple is painted in its original white to match the historic interiors, but a few rooms have a light-colored paint, such as the celestial room and the large sealing rooms located in the annex. The tower has three tiers, with a base about 32 feet square, an octagonal second level, and a smaller octagonal third stage topped by a small dome. The tower is a wood structure rather than the red sand-stone of the exterior walls below. Because of aging and corrosion, the original wood dome exterior was replaced entirely with white fiberglass in the 1990s.

Repaving Around the St. George Utah Temple

The temple’s previous murals — suggesting a sequence of creation, garden and world — were removed in the 1980s and partially restored in the 1990s. With the recent renovations, three artists were commissioned — one each for the three instruction rooms — to create scenes of southwest Utah’s rugged natural beauty. The millwork throughout the temple — including altars, recommend desk and cabinets — reflect the design and detail from the 1870s. Doors are white-painted wood, with replacement bronze hardware based on historic precedents. The flooring is new wood, carpet and tile, with the wood similar to the historic flooring used in some areas of the north addition. The baptistry flooring is of red metaquartzite quarried near Las Vegas, Nevada.

Remains Lighting in New York City manufactured the metal decorative lighting fixtures, which are made of cast bronze with a two-tone finish to match the building’s hardware finishes. Other decorative fixtures are period antiques that have been refurbished and rewired for use in the temple. All lighting fixtures are historically consistent with those found in the late 1800s. The historic St. George Utah Temple, the Church’s longest-operating house of the Lord, was announced by Brigham Young in 1871, and the temple was dedicated in 1877. It has gone through previous renovations, including in 1917, 1938 and 1975.

St. George Utah Temple

The southern Utah pioneer-era temple — the oldest and longest-operating of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — has been under renovation since November 2019. The St. George temple has undergone multiple renovations since it was originally dedicated in 1877, according to the Church News. It will continue through Saturday, Nov. 11, excluding Sundays and Saturday, Sept. 30, due to general conference. The veil and celestial rooms historically featured murals that represented the room in the progressive sequence of creation, garden and world rooms. These murals were removed in the 1970s and partially restored in the 1990s. New murals were commissioned that capture the rugged natural beauty of the southwest Utah landscape.

st. george temple open house

There is also a new baptistry entrance on the south side of the temple and a bride’s exit on the northeast corner. The desert’s simplicity, symmetry and color are seen in both the exterior and interior of the temple. Following its extensive renovation over two-plus years, the St. George temple hosted its public open house beginning Sept. 15, 2023, and concluding Nov. 15, less than three months ago.

In October 2018 general conference, President Russell M. Nelson announced the Church’s intention to renovate its pioneer temples, with the St. George Utah Temple the first since to be completed. Renovation plans and exterior renderings were released in May 2019, with the temple closing in early November of the same year. Andy Kirby, director of the Church’s historic temple renovations, said of the renovations, “It has [an] all-new heating, air conditioning and cooling system .

Jason Cobb, an on-site foreman for Grant Mackay Demolition Company, has been doing this type of construction work for 14 years, but this job is different. As a member of the Church, he said working on the temple allows him to be a part of history. He said, "It feels amazing to me to have the opportunity to be able to work on temples . . . to be able to feel the love that the Lord has for His house and for each one of us." According to the Church's Newsroom site, the St. George Utah Temple, the first of four pioneer-era temples, closed on Monday, 4 November 2019, to undergo "extensive structural, mechanical, electrical, finish and plumbing work." In November 2005, the Los Angeles California Temple closed for a seismic overhaul and renovation of the baptistry, reopening July 11, 2006—the same year as the 50th anniversary of the dedication of the temple. During that time, the Church had difficulty locating suitable acreage on which to build a stake center.

The announcement to build the St. George temple was given on 9 November 1871, and a groundbreaking ceremony was held that same day. Brigham Young, the prophet and president of the Church at the time, personally chose a six-acre plot as the site for the temple. The afternoon of the groundbreaking ceremony the Saints immediately began construction for their new temple. Unfortunately, the Saints soon discovered that the site was swampy with numerous underground streams. They asked Brigham Young if perhaps they should move the site, but he remained firm that this was the site for the temple.

st. george temple open house

Walking tours of the temple will be offered daily except for Sundays and Saturday, April 6. St. George’s newest house of the Lord originally was referred to as the Washington County Utah Temple when President Russell M. Nelson announced plans in October 2018 general conference for a second temple in the area. The Washington County name was still referenced when the site location — northeast of 3000 East and 1580 South in southeastern St. George — and preliminary building size were published a year later, in November 2019. The two open houses and the rededication of the older temple and the dedication of the new one mark the first time that such milestone events for two houses of the Lord have been held so closely together in both time and location.

Before the Mesa Arizona Temple was constructed, Arizona members performed temple ordinances in the St. George Utah Temple. Because of the numerous bridal parties that traveled the wagon road between St. George and Arizona, the well-trod path became known as the Honeymoon Trail. Two other historic Utah temples — in Manti and Logan will also be renovated. The St. George Utah Temple serves Latter-day Saint communities in southwestern Utah and parts of Arizona and Nevada. Despite the closure, temple-going Latter-day Saints will be able to continue attending temple services at the Cedar City Utah Temple. After Cedar City, the nearest Latter-day Saint temple is the Las Vegas Nevada Temple.

The progressive-style ordinance rooms that were used to present 3 live-acting endowment sessions a day, were replaced with three motion-picture ordinance rooms that accommodated 14 sessions a day. The ceilings of the historic building were mostly replaced with new plaster and drywall because of the sagging wood floor structure above that required reinforcing. The ceilings of the north addition are painted drywall, with suspended ceiling tiles used in some areas, such as the dressing rooms. The profiles of crown moldings match historic moldings found in the temple.

The cupola was replaced in 1883 following a lightning strike, and the first temple annex was added the same year. Other renovations followed in 1917, 1938 and 1975, with the temple rededicated after the latter by President Spencer W. Kimball. A media day is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 11, with special-guest tours to follow through Thursday, Sept. 14. The public open house will run nearly two months, from Friday, Sept. 15, through Saturday, Nov. 11, excluding Sundays and Saturday, Sept. 30 for October 2023 general conference.

During that time, plans for the temple were revised to include a priesthood assembly room and to accommodate a unprecedented 300 patrons per session. Atkinson helped many of the faith and charity organizations in the twin cities procure their lists of needed items from the stake center prior to dismantling. “We walked the halls with about 12 to 14 different pastors and organizations. Solid-wood doors and cabinets from the stake center were given to Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore, which helps fund the construction of new homes.

This beautiful temple is in the center of St. George and stands as a beautiful reminder of the hard work and dedication that was required by the Saints for its building. Other pioneer-era temples followed the St. George Utah Temple dedication, including the Logan Utah Temple dedication in 1884, the Manti Utah Temple dedication in 1888, and the Salt Lake Temple dedication in 1893. During the 1940s a two-inch layer of gunite (a mixture of cement, sand, and water) and steel reinforcing was applied to the temple’s exterior to hide cracks and eliminate future cracking.

The Saratoga Springs Utah Temple will be the state’s 18th dedicated house of the Lord later this summer, scheduled for an Aug. 13 dedication by President Henry B. Eyring. The motif of alternating gold, five-point star and quatrefoil has been preserved on the fourth floor,  reconstructed in second-floor instruction rooms and used in subtle ways throughout the temple. All lighting fixtures are consistent to the designs of the late 1800s, with glass shades based on a grapevine or gothic motif. And the St. George Utah Temple served as the Church’s first where the house of the Lord was reserved exclusively for temple worship, ordinance work and related meetings. The Kirtland Temple had been used for general worship meetings and even some civic meetings. Also, the section of 400 South on the temple’s north side has been changed from a two-way street to a pedestrian plaza.

“We’re probably dealing with 10 or 20,000 dollars’ worth of basic materials, because it’s in really good condition,” said Nicoleti, who estimated the money will help place families into new homes. A leaf pattern adorns the bride’s room, hearkening to the art glass and rug designs. This leaf pattern is derived from early Christian representations of the olive branch. The arched windows of the second level and the ordinance spaces depict the almond blossom, representing the agricultural industry of the area.

The existing fountain from the 1970s renovation and addition (north entry) is replaced with a new quatrefoil-shaped fountain. There is also a new fountain in the east plaza, similar to the fountain on the north side. These fountains are built from concrete stem walls, painted on the exterior and tiled on the interior with a decorative design motif. The inner portion of the fountain has a bronzed multi-tiered water feature. The design was a coordinated effort between CRSA, MGB+A and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Mr. Tumber was not in the market to sell, but that changed when he was approached by representatives of the Church. The doors are made of cherry wood, cherries being a significant agricultural product in the area. In the ordinance areas, the decorative paint is an abstraction of the local flora and its underlying geometry. It is used to accentuate the architecture at key points and connections. It signifies the natural beauty of the local area and the principles that contribute to that beauty. The temple grounds are enclosed with a six-foot-tall steel picket fence, powder-coated with a bronze color to match other metal fixtures on the site.

Two fountains, a large reflection pool, and several family-themed statues further beautify the grounds. North of the temple is a public visitors' center that showcases a representation of Thorvaldsen's Christus statue and also houses the popular Los Angeles Family History Library. The temple grounds are all aglow at Christmastime when thousands of multi-colored lights decorate the numerous trees and features. In 1917, the north annex was enlarged, the first of more than 10 renovation or improvement projects on the St. George temple. Other major renovations prior to the latest included the 1938 modifications to the floor plan and the 1975 major renovation effort, which included another enlargement to the annex and the addition of the west-side staircase. President Spencer W. Kimball rededicated the St. George temple on Nov. 11, 1975, following the previous renovation.

In October 2018 general conference, President Russell M. Nelson announced the Church’s intention to renovate its pioneer temples, with the St. George Utah Temple the first since to be completed. Renovation plans and exterior renderings were released in May 2019, with the temple closing in early November of that year. A public open house will start on Friday, September 15, and continue until Saturday, November 11, excluding Sundays and Saturday the 30th of September, which is general conference. The St. George temple was completed and dedicated in 1877 by pioneers of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, making it the church’s first completed temple in Utah. The first images from inside the renovated St. George Utah Temple were released Wednesday, as Latter-day Saint leaders hosted a media briefing and tours ahead of the start of the public open house that begins next week.

The St. George temple underwent an extensive renovation nearly 50 years ago, then was rededicated in 1975 by President Spencer W. Kimball. ChurchofJesusChristTemples.org shares construction news, photographs, maps, and interesting facts about the temples of the restored Church of Jesus Christ. The entablatures of the original interiors featured a motif of alternating quatrefoils and gold five-pointed stars.

Located in the city of St. George, Utah, it was the first Latter-day Saint temple built in the Rocky Mountains. It was designed by Truman O. Angell who also worked on the Kirtland and Nauvoo Temples and designed the Salt Lake Temple. The presentation of the endowment was originally delivered by live acting in the Los Angeles California Temple. Smaller items that help a church and events center function were also needed, but they were pricey to purchase on the ministry’s budget.

In the center forward role we should expect Sebastián Ferreira to be our number 9. On the right we have plenty of options and Nagamura has rotated his wings a lot this season. Personally I think it’ll be between Tyler Pasher and Corey Baird with Pasher ultimately getting the nod.

Start

We want to know who you think should or will start though so let us know below. Houston Dynamo and Charlotte FC's first half and second half card stats for your predictions. The Dynamo host FC Dallas for the second and final leg of the Texas Derby on Saturday, July 9 at PNC Stadium. This will mark the first opportunity for fans to watch midfielder Héctor Herrera take the field at PNC Stadium.

Goal of the Matchday 11: Alex Katranis

Carrasquilla's shot goes wide with a slight defensive touch and the game is stopped because it is time for rehydration. A very serious mistake by defender Micael, who delayed the ball towards his goal and scored a serious own goal. Houston (4-4-1, 13 points) dropped its second straight game and recorded just two shots and none on goal. Orange Crush are eighth in the conference despite suffering a 2-0 defeat at Dallas, with St Louis moving to within a point of Houston following a 3-3 draw versus Sporting Kansas City.

Along with advancing in Leagues Cup, the Dynamo are having a resurgent season, currently sitting in a Western Conference playoff position. Houston reached the semifinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup for the first time since winning the title in 2018 and will host Real Salt Lake at Shell Energy Stadium on Aug. 23. The revamped format of Leagues Cup features 47 clubs that currently compete in Major League Soccer and Liga MX.

Houston and Charlotte have only met once since the Crown’s inaugural MLS season in 2022, resulting in a 2-1 victory for the visitors at Shell Energy Stadium. The Dynamo will look to even the all-time series at one win apiece on Monday night. The Houston Dynamo are a bit strange, because they have not won a single game and they are already in the top 16.

Houston Dynamo FC currently sits in the 8th position in the Western Conference with 29 points from 23 matches. Their recent form has seen them secure two wins and suffer three losses in their last five games. As they head into the next round, Houston Dynamo will be relying on their home advantage to progress further. Charlotte FC is one of the newest franchises in U.S. soccer and has steadily improved to reach this stage.

The Witch’s House, also known as the Spadena House, after its first owner, was designed to function as the office and dressing rooms for Willat Studios back in 1920. When the studio shut down, producer Ward Lascelle, spared it from demolition and moved it to Walden Drive in Beverly Hills in 1926, where it now serves as a personal residence. The house was given an intentionally dilapidated look with a distressed paint job and overgrown English-style garden and a moat-like pond. The house’s wacky architecture made it a popular landmark in Beverly Hills, and inspired others to create more such storybook houses. The Witch’s House even appeared in a fair number of movies, starting from the silent era Hansel and Gretel (1923) to Clueless (1995).
