After Adam graduated from Harvard, he moved to Los Angeles to serve as a law clerk for Judge William Matthew Byrne, Jr. Adam later joined the U.S. Due to the legal nature of the committee’s work it has been customary for members of the committee to have a legal background. In a time of great change and scientific progress an expanding list of issues, including intellectual property, cloning, and the internet, require committee members to possess a wide breadth of knowledge in order to effectively address concerns from these and other new areas. The House Judiciary Committee released an interim staff report detailing mismanagement, waste, and abuse of government resources by senior leadership at the FTC—specifically Chair Khan, her direct staff, and the Bureau of Competition Front Office. As the mainstream media repeatedly fails and loses public trust, TGP has continued to offer accurate and timely reporting for almost two decades.

By mid-week, the committee could decide on which articles to recommend to the House. The Justice Department is also expected to be pulled into an investigation led by House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) into the business dealings of President Biden’s son, Hunter, and the family’s finances. Mr. Trump wanted Mr. Kemp to appoint Mr. Collins, figuring Mr. Collins would be an attack dog during a Senate impeachment trial. For President Joe Biden, it’s a story about money, influence, and protecting the Biden family brand.

On November 26, 2017, Conyers stepped down from his position as ranking member, while he faced an ethics investigation.[2] On November 28, 2017, Jerrold Nadler of New York was named as acting ranking member. Any legislation that carries a possibility for criminal or civil penalties can be referred to the Committee on the Judiciary, so its legislative workload is substantial. The committee’s weighty agenda has frequently placed it in a central role in American politics, most notably during its consideration of impeachment charges against presidents of the United States in both 1974 and 1998. "If state or local prosecutors like Bragg and Willis are allowed to engage in politically motivated prosecutions of former or current U.S. Presidents for personal acts, this could have a profound impact on how Presidents choose to exercise their official duties while in office." The settlement with the Securities and Exchange Commission included a requirement that his tweets be approved first by a Tesla attorney. It also called for Musk and Tesla to pay civil fines over the tweets in which Musk said he had “funding secured” to take Tesla private at $420 per share.

The only California Republican on the Judiciary Committee, McClintock isn’t known as one of the high-profile Trump allies. Still, he describes the inquiry process so far as a sham, saying Trump, or his attorney, were not given the same right to participate in the Intelligence Committee depositions or hearings as previous presidents. This week, the committee heard from four legal experts who sought to define impeachment and how the framers of the Constitution intended it to be used. On Monday, the committee is expected to hear a summary of the evidence gathered during the Intelligence Committee’s two-month investigation.
The Committee concludes its report suggesting legislation to address politically motivated prosecutors, including Rep. Russell Fry's H.R. Examples of confidential case records include records filed in “juvenile dependency” cases (when a child is removed from their parents) and “juvenile delinquency” cases (when a child is accused of committing a crime). When someone files a case in court, the court will keep an official record about the case. The official court record consists of f papers and materials filed in the case. For example, if you file a lawsuit claiming another person owes you money, your name and how much money you are asking for will become part of the court case record. Senate lawmakers this week proposed legislation that would set criminal penalties for the spread of non-consensual, AI-generated sexual images of individuals.
Committed to providing fair and equal access to justice for all Californians. The Intelligence Committee heard from more than a dozen witnesses, both in closed-door depositions and in public hearings, something that the Judiciary Committee isn’t expected to repeat. “Anything that we can impart on our Judiciary colleagues about what we learned from that experience to make this a successful experience and presenting the facts to the American people is a good thing,” he said. Swalwell, a former county prosecutor, is the only Californian who serves on both the Intelligence Committee, which conducted the investigation, and the Judiciary Committee, which will craft the articles.
House Republicans send Mayorkas impeachment articles to the Senate, forcing trial
The timing and basis for the DANY's prosecution of President Trump provide a clear inference that Bragg is motivated by political calculations. The facts at the center of Bragg's political prosecution had not changed since 2018 and no new witnesses had emerged. Federal prosecutors already declined to pursue the case, and Bragg's predecessor Cyrus Vance also waved off the case. The only intervening factor, it appears, was President Trump's announcement that he would be a candidate for President in 2024. For a complete list of case types in which the public may only view electronic records at the courthouse, see rule 2.503 of the California Rules of Court. If your court does not keep electronic case records, you will need to go to the courthouse in person to look at paper case records.

Deeply reported insights into legislation, politics and policy from Sacramento, Washington and beyond. Raben, the author of the Linder letter, praised Uriarte’s version and said it puts down a marker of the deliberate action the committee and the public should expect from the department.
As a state legislator, Adam authored dozens of bills that were enacted into law, from guaranteeing up-to-date textbooks in the classroom, overhauling state child support laws, passing a patient's bill of rights, and guaranteeing cost-of-living increases for teacher pensions. He authored the Schiff-Cárdenas Juvenile Justice Crime Prevention Act of 2000, which provided millions in funding to keep at-risk youth out of prison. Perhaps most notably, Adam is known as the "Father of the Gold Line" for his work to expand Metro rail into the San Gabriel valley, from Pasadena to Azusa, a project that is still ongoing. The son of a Jewish chicken farmer, Mr. Nadler has a long and not happy history with the president. The two fought bitterly in the 1980s over a real estate development Mr. Trump sought to build on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Meticulous and thorough — he is never seen without a stack of briefing papers — Mr. Nadler, 72, faded from view when Representative Adam B. Schiff, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, took the reins over the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry.
Schiff’s campaign confirmed the burglary and declined further comment, citing an ongoing investigation. That would be especially egregious in situations where younger performers, lacking leverage in negotiations, sign away their rights. That said, Mason said that there was a “patchwork of state laws” that address the right of publicity for individuals, and some do not have any laws at all. Wilson was among the witnesses testifying at a Los Angeles field hearing of a House Judiciary subcommittee today, with some strong endorsements for the proposed bill, and also a stark warning against one of its provisions. As the state's highest court, its decisions are binding on all other California state courts.
The rights can be transferred to the heirs or designees for a period of 10 years after the individual’s passing. It sets damages at $50,000 for each unauthorized violation by a personalized cloning service, or the actual damages suffered plus profits from the use. I think we understand it’s important to keep it simple for both the purposes of the Senate trial and also explaining what the president did to the American people,” Lieu said. “When you hear what ‘high crimes and misdemeanors’ actually means, then you understand why the president has, in my opinion, absolutely committed high crimes and misdemeanors,” she said. She dismissed the idea that Democrats are moving too quickly, a complaint held by some Republicans and their legal witness who testified Wednesday.

Keep in mind too that all or part of a court case record may be confidential by law or sealed by court order. If so, no member of the public may view the electronic case record, either at the courthouse or through remote access. For example, if you saw a news story about a criminal trial and wanted to look at the court’s electronic record about the case to find out more, you would need to visit the courthouse and see the electronic case record there. In some special situations, where there is an unusually high level of public interest in a criminal case, a judge may allow remote access to a criminal case electronic record. An electronic case record can only be viewed on an electronic device such as a computer, tablet, or cell phone. Not all court case records are available electronically and access to electronic court case records is controlled by law.

“Frankly, I think it makes the department better when Congress is effectively doing oversight of the department, and so my view is, I want to be as cooperative as we can with them. I want to find those areas where we can work with Congress, because I know that it makes the department better when we do that, [and] are transparent, but I also recognize that there’s some ways and times where we can’t do that,” Uriarte told The Times in an interview. As the former chair of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Adam is recognized as a leader on national security and foreign policy issues. He has been a longtime advocate of legislation to sunset out of date Authorizations to Use Military Force and to refocus America's counterterrorism mission.
Meanwhile he withheld nearly $400 million in aid and a White House meeting the Ukrainian president desperately sought. “The Assistant attorney general stands right between the executive branch and the legislative branch. The Department of Justice is reluctant to provide information about many matters, and the Hill wants information. It obviously is dramatically more difficult when one house of Congress is controlled by the opposite party,” said Ronald Weich, who was assistant attorney general for legislative affairs under President Obama and is now dean of the University of Baltimore School of Law.
The U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary, also called the House Judiciary Committee, is a standing committee of the United States House of Representatives. It is charged with overseeing the administration of justice within the federal courts, federal administrative agencies, and federal law enforcement entities. The Judiciary Committee is often involved in the impeachment process against federal officials.
The House Judiciary Committee released a report on Thursday on Soros-funded Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s “unprecedented” multi-year investigation into former President Donald J. Trump after Bragg campaigned as the best candidate to go after the president. The SEC’s initial enforcement action against Musk alleged that his tweets about going private violated antifraud provisions of securities laws. The agency began investigating whether Musk violated the settlement in 2021 when he did not get approval before asking followers on Twitter, now X, if he should sell 10% of his Tesla stock. Lofgren, a former immigration attorney, is the only Democratic member of the House with experience on both previous modern impeachment efforts.
Adam also is a cosponsor of Medicare for All and continues to fight for expanded access to health care for all. In 2023, Adam secured more than $13.7 million in federal funding to address homelessness and food insecurity, local education, and improve public health and safety programs within his district. Ms. Lofgren has the distinction as the only committee member present for all three of the modern impeachment proceedings. In 1974, when Nixon resigned rather than face impeachment, she was a law student working on the staff of a California congressman who served on the judiciary panel.
Even when the public is not allowed to look at a court case record, there will still be certain people who are allowed to do so. For example, if you are a party in a case, you can look at the court case record even if the public cannot. In other court cases, there are certain records in the case file that are not available to the public. The public may be able to see part of the court case file but would not be able to see this record. The legislation would give individuals more control over the use of their identifying characteristics in digital replicas. It affirms that every person has a “property right in their own likeness and voice,” and do not expire upon a person’s death.
Members of the public who wanted to see the electronic case record would have to visit the courthouse to do so. Certain people, such as a party or a party’s attorney can always use remote access, if available, to look at the full electronic court case record. How you can access an electronic court case record depends on your relationship to the case.
Adam has been a leading voice against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and their foreign interference in our elections. He was part of the congressional delegation that traveled to Ukraine to meet with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy in the spring of 2022 and has strongly advocated for the U.S. provision of aid and economic support for Ukraine. In the 115th Congress, the chairman of the committee was Republican Bob Goodlatte of Virginia, and the ranking minority member was initially Democrat John Conyers of Michigan.
The fundamental mission of any prosecutor's office is to uphold the rule of law. And one of the hallmarks of this mission is to ensure that justice is blind—applied fairly and equally. Bragg's politically motivated prosecution of President Trump threatens to destroy this notion of blind justice by using the criminal justice system to attack an individual he disagrees with politically, and, in turn, erodes the confidence of the American people. Some laws, rules of court, and court orders make some case records confidential. Correa, a former attorney, said he wants to look at where the Mueller report fits into the articles of impeachment and whether it should be included in some way.
And I want to see whether the Mueller report applies as the law is being presented to us. I think Mr. Mueller, decorated war veteran, a soldier, an FBI agent, a very honorable man, did a tremendous job on that report. And I think it should be part of the evidence that’s presented to us,” Correa said. Following a more than two-month impeachment investigation by the House Intelligence Committee, the Judiciary Committee now must determine why the evidence warrants impeachment.
Adam has worked to harden our defenses against foreign interference in our elections and expose it to the American public. In 2023, he reintroduced the Protecting Our Democracy Act, landmark legislation to prevent the abuse of power by any president and to strengthen checks and balances. He has also fought to strengthen our democracy by championing expansion of voting rights for all Americans, and legislation to expand and protect the rights of all Americans, including women and LGBTQ individuals whose rights have been under assault. Adam has also been a leading advocate for equality and human rights at home and around the world.
Adam has advanced efforts to protect the freedom of the press by authorizing the Daniel Pearl Freedom of the Press Act, as well as legislation to prevent the proliferation of nuclear material. Adam is a longtime champion of the environment and clean energy, as well as investments in infrastructure and mass transit. As a State Senator, he wrote the legislation establishing the Gold Line Light Rail Authority, and in Congress has led efforts to extend the light rail and mass transit throughout Los Angeles County. As one of the bill’s original cosponsors, Adam has been a consistent champion of the Green New Deal, which would combat climate change, invest in clean energy, and create a green economy in California and across the country. Throughout his time in Congress, Adam has pushed to preserve and protect the Rim of the Valley Corridor by adding almost 200,000 acres to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area to protect natural resources and habitats around the Los Angeles basin for generations to come. Adam has also worked with the local community to protect constituents from increased noise from helicopters and airplanes and to secure funding to help restore the Los Angeles River.

We touched on this earlier, so we don’t delve into it again, but you can charge considerably higher rates with a fully furnished property. It’s been nearly five years since Willow House opened, and Werner feels that the hotel is hitting its stride. After several big additions over the years — such as the yoga deck, manager’s house, and the pool – there are no further plans for construction from this point forward. What Werner lacked in experience, she made up for with confidence in her vision, a knack for creating compelling spaces, and pure determination. Guests have full access to all communal spaces described in the Main House description.

Three beautiful courtyards separate this house from the others. The second has an outdoor shower, a handsome outdoor fireplace, kitchen sink and counter, and the cabin, all enclosed by a 5 foot rock wall for privacy. Inside, Werner payed homage to Terlingua’s natural beauty. Off the main house are the 12 casitas, which range from 250 square feet to 600 square feet.

The structures, completed in Spring 2019, are single story stand-alone casitas. The water source for the entire property is a water well powered by a solar pump. Two heavy duty reverse osmosis systems filter the well water. Drilling our own water source was a big moment for the project, as water is scarce in this dry, high-desert region. Over the next few years, Werner’s vision for the project began to take form. Inspired by the hospitality experience at friends’ West Texas ranches, she imagined individual casitas grouped around a main house. A central, communal experience, paired with the private seclusion of stand alone guest quarters. The alluring beauty of the Chisos Mountains is nearly indescribable—its rugged arcs giving way to miles of desert terrain.

We mixed design elements from high desert areas with warm modernism and a hint of inspiration from Georgia O'Keeffe's unforgettable southwestern style. In all design decisions, we chose to use colors and textures that naturally existed on the land. For rock walls and pathways throughout the property, we used rocks that we sourced and collected from various areas of the property. For the shade structures, we used dead ocotillo branches we found around the property. In order to build structures that stand the test of time, we have used high-quality materials that are durable in a climate that can be dramatic.

Sophisticated offerings considering how remote Marfa is. They carry everything from essentials (olive oil, eggs, butter) to unlikely Marfa finds (wide selection of Kombucha, specialty hummus).
‘Nearly everything here was either done by an artist who resides in West Texas or through a residency at Willow House’. ‘I took two separate trips out to Farmville,’ Werner says of the latter. ‘They have 17 massive warehouses full of goodies that any interior designer would go nuts over’. However, an open, warm community space featuring a kitchen, living area and outdoor fire pit at the heart of the property paves the way for visitors to mix a drink and make new friends. The real draw inside the main house is the sunken sitting area.
The café is open seven days a week, 7am - 9pm and serves generous portions of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The convenience store next door offers quick snack options, picnic supplies, ice, basic groceries, gasoline, and diesel fuel. This small yet iconic cemetery is located along the downhill slope of the old Terlingua Ghost Town. A formerly abandoned quicksilver mining camp-turned tourist destination, this site may be one of the most photographed cemeteries in Texas. Modest yet unique crosses line the the simple stonework and small grottoes in this historic burial spot.

It offers incomparable views, easy access, and a unique Big Bend experience. Throughout the construction process, Werner slept on a mattress in whatever room wasn’t being worked on, and she still stayed around after Willow House opened in June 2019. She shared her story with guests, observed how people used the space and made continuous plans to improve the hotel based on these observations. People were using the communal kitchen more often than expected? La Kiva, a local tradition in Terlingua, is carved out of massive sandstone boulders.
Willow House is designed to be multi-functional. The property can sleep 30 people comfortably and we are happy to work on special accommodations for groups larger than 30. The layout of Willow House makes this property perfect for large groups, individuals, and/or special events. Please contact us directly if you desire to rent the entire property.
Additionally, the Marfa Lights Festival takes place on Labor Day weekend each year with food and craft vendors open around the historic Presidio County Courthouse. Comprised of 12 casitas, the property sits over 250 acres of land with uninterrupted views of Chisos Mountain Range and Santa Elena Canyon. What once was a roofless theater now offers delicious Texas eats & live music. Grab a beer on the porch and hang like a local. Enjoy a separate private bathroom in the flower garden with sink, flush toilet, and a bathtub.

I am always pleasantly surprised to find all ingredients to make an impressive charcuterie board at The Get Go. The Saint George restaurant has good food, cocktails, and most importantly... Coffee and cocktails are served all day until 3pm. “There was nowhere that I had seen around Big Bend that focused on the Chisos as the primary view, which is the whole reason people go out to Big Bend,” Werner said. At age 25, Werner first visited the Big Bend area on a solo road trip to West Texas. She was struck by the beauty of the land and instantly fell in love with the area.

Marfa is the town most commonly synonymous with design in Far West Texas, but Willow House is putting another destination on the map. Located in Terlingua, just miles from Big Bend National Park, the desert retreat is comprised of 12 casitas that sit over 250 acres of land. Werner says that though the structures are modern in design, they are ‘completely in tune’ with the beauty of the Big Bend. Their minimal nature doesn’t distract from the setting, she explains. There is not a spot on the property where Werner’s love for the desert can’t be felt. ‘I want it to respect the location and the colors of the natural landscape,’ she muses.
Stay in the know
With a seasoned team handling construction and architecture, I’m excited to see how Lauren Werner’s intuitive eye for a good hospitality concept and design will continue to shine. Reflecting and showcasing the surrounding desert landscape was a core tenant of the project from the beginning, a quality that Werner felt was lacking in the available accomodations in the area. Born and raised in Southern California, Lauren Werner’s introduction to Texas began during her time studying at Southern Methodist University. She graduated with a pre-law degree and began working in commercial real estate in Dallas, but was quickly convinced that she wanted to start a project of her own.
The first features a hammock, yoga rug, and stunning views. The second has an outdoor shower, a handsome outdoor fireplace, and kitchen sink and counter, all enclosed by 5 foot rock wall for privacy. The third courtyard has an arbor surrounded by flowers, where one can relax on a full-size bed and enjoy the desert vistas. The Guest House’s one-room structure houses a queen-sized bed, full kitchen, and a breakfast nook.

The retreat is situated on a 250-acre ranch and is comprised of 12 private concrete casitas. Decked out in desert hues and vintage furnishings, each one exudes rugged sophistication. Some include private patios and outdoor showers but they all feature sweeping vistas of the local peaks. At the center of the property is the main house. Equipped with a chef's kitchen, guests are encouraged to whip up some grub and mingle around the campfire for alfresco dining under the stars. The Guest House is the most private of the home rentals and features 3 beautiful courtyards.
Although the burial ground is listed as St. Agnes Chisos Cemetery on church records, the official death records continued to list it as the Terlingua Cemetery. Although the town was once segregated with Mexican families living east of the company store and Anglo families to the west, both Mexicans and Anglos were laid to rest in the same cemetery. With her first hotel well-established, Werner is working towards a second hotel, Oxido, a nature retreat located on 30 acres of mountainside property in Sedona, Arizona. Like Willow House, Oxido will include standalone guest rooms gathered around the main house, with a focus on unobstructed desert views and good design. The project has not yet broken ground, but the team has been coordinating permits, raising money, and wrapping up design for the past one and a half years. The 'Main House' serves as the central gathering area for Willow House guests- a communal oasis for all to enjoy.
The restaurant is known for its unique structure and excellent food. La Kiva has been a community center and a popular spot for locals and tourists for years. In addition to its delicious menu, the restaurant is also known for hosting live music events.
Ballroom Marfa is particularly interested in helping artists and curators achieve projects that have significant cultural impact but would be impossible to realize in a traditional gallery or museum setting. This coffee spot originated in an airstream trailer before moving into an old automotive shop. Started by the owner of a favorite Austin roasting company, this shop has quickly become a favorite for high quality coffee drinks. This bottle shop and patio is the perfect place to check out if you’re a fan of natural wines. With a thoughtfully curated and ever-growing selection, you can trust that you’re getting a wine that’s delicious, sustainable, and high-quality. Unlike her work on Willow House, Werner is collaborating with a broader team this time around, including the architects behind Auberge’s The Lodge at Blue Sky.

You can order at the counter, call in for pick-up, or enjoy pizza by the slice. I grab a bottle of red wine, sit at the folding tables, and decompress. The Big Bend is named for the vast curve of the Rio Grande in remote southwest Texas. It is a wildly beautiful natural region, with a complex and fascinating history. On a road trip with a friend to Santa Fe in 2017, she heard word about a piece of land, just under 300 acres, with spectacular, unobstructed views of the Chisos Mountains. She redirected their trip to Terlingua, saw the land, and made an offer on the spot for the piece of desert that would go on to be the home of Willow House.
There’s a separate private bathroom in the flower garden with sink, flush toilet, and a bathtub. The Willow House concept was born after a trip to Big Bend National Park that sparked a love for Far West Texas and the freedom that comes with exploring this remote part of the world. We set out to offer our guests a unique place to stay, unlike anything else in the area.
